Bleak House

A week ago I decided to try to peek under our downstairs bathroom wallpaper to assess the condition of the walls. We had always wallpapered this room, despite the problems with moisture and subsequent peeling and mildew, because we considered the walls too uneven to expose with paint. But after stripping and painting the upstairs bath, I really liked the clean surface despite the flaws. Of course, my attempt to "peek" at the walls downstairs accidentally led to stripping off a large piece of wallpaper and we were committed. (Is it true there are no accidents?)

Whereas the upstairs walls were made out of some kind of cardboard, the downstairs walls are plaster and I have been finding it somewhat satisfying to dig out loose pieces, patch, and sand with my new random motion sander. This has made quite a dusty mess, and given that we spent the week in black clothes for our orchestra pit committment, the timing was not ideal.

Here is the current look.

What color are you planning to paint the bathroom. We finally got rid of our bathroom wallpaper but I was such a wimp I couldn't get it scraped off so I hired someone to do it. It looks much better now.
