How time flies

On Friday night, Joel and I attended the an event at Orchestra Hall ("Wizard of Oz" screening with orchestra accompaniment). We had not been there in a long time and were impressed with the lively lobby and the friendliness of the staff and volunteers. The woman directing us to our seats told us that we would enjoy the show, and then added, "But you already know that. You've been here before!" I didn't have the heart to tell her that the last time we'd been there, Jimmy Carter had been president.

Another Unexpected Twist

Long ago, I launched an Unexpected Twist series when I first started blogging. Although I love these weird human interest stories, I obviously didn't love them enough to follow up with more than one entry. So, here goes...

A 40ish woman we shall call Kay has sung alto with our Catholic church choir since before our time at the church (at least 10 years). She rarely misses a practice or mass (always taking communion), and has cantored and taught Sunday School and Confirmation.

A while back another choir member was describing her trip to Italy when Kay mentioned that she wanted to go there someday. The returned traveler started to explain how to make arrangements to go to a mass said by the Pope, when Kay politely cut her off: "Oh, I wouldn't be interested in that. I'm not Catholic."
