I am NOT a band nerd

Joel and I used to make sport of those fellow Saint Anthony Park Community Band members who belonged to a lot of groups. Slowly, we have turned into those people. Bands and pit orchestras are always desparate for drummers who have their own equipment, can read music, and who show up sober (usually). Right now, I'm playing with one community band on Tuesday nights, another on Sunday nights, and rehearsing for a show that opens next week ("Once Upon a Mattress," produced by the Lakeshore Players in White Bear Lake). But just because I am playing 8 out of the next 11 nights does not mean I am a band nerd!

Joel and I also have plans for starting a little polka band as a sub-group within the Lex Ham Community Band. We figured that residents at the nursing homes would enjoy this style of music and some of our fellow musicians were eager to participate. I've had a hard time coming up with music for a group of instruments that include accordion and other C and Bb instruments, however. I was delighted to dig out the pictured book among the dusty junk at Accordion Heaven (on Randolph Avenue in Saint Paul). Love the illustrations!

the first step is admitting you have a problem.
